“The best thing about this job is the satisfaction. The emotional satisfaction from seeing my fellow consultants grow and excel in this field is more than words can describe. It is my honor to be able to guide and share my experiences with them as they start this journey with their first clients to attain stellar financial results and personal growth. That is just so rewarding to me.”
At just 23 years old, Benjamin Ong (Rep No. OJH300043193) is already a manager with Starr Epic Advisory.
“I am one of the youngest managers in the agency,” he said. “I started as a financial consultant two years ago and got promoted to a manager one year later.”
Benjamin has worked hard to achieve this role focusing on providing value to all his clients regardless of their age with more focus on students and fresh graduates who need guidance when it comes to financial planning and adulting.
To reach out and help more people on this financial journey, Benjamin recruited a team of undergraduate students who are passionate about learning, hunger to succeed and helping more people their goals through proper planning.
“To me, it’s not about the skills my teammates have, it’s about their attitude. He or she must have the desire and heart to help people and be disciplined”
Hence, he spends a lot of time training his teammates, guiding, and teaching them the right knowledge and skills required to succeed. He also added “Once all the knowledge and skills has been taught, more time is diverted to their emotional well-being and general happiness which is not always derived from financial satisfaction.”
It’s a lot to manage. But he is not alone in this. As a manager, he has a network of directors, senior managers and mentors who unselfishness supports him and share valuable advice. “You got to embrace the support and lessons from your directors, and then develop your own management style,” he elaborated.
As mentioned on the first floor with the financial consultant role, you are your own CEO, so to speak. As for Benjamin, he carved out his unique leadership style that focuses on diversity, freedom, and fun.
“My teammates all come from different backgrounds. Diversity is not always a taboo; we are always willing to try new things and see things from different viewpoints to help improve ourselves. One of our new experiments is to achieve daily morning physical training before we start work. That’s one way we take care of our mental and physical wellbeing. I also make sure we go on staycations when possible, so we get a well-deserved break,” he shared.
He doesn’t micro-manage anyone but gives everyone the flexibility to work their own hours, as long as they meet the targets. The work can be challenging, and the responsibilities heavy, but it is all worth it, according to Benjamin.
“The best thing about this job is the satisfaction. The emotional satisfaction from seeing my fellow consultants grow and excel in this field is more than words can describe. It is my honor to be able to guide and share my experiences with them as they start this journey with their first clients to attain stellar financial results and personal growth. That is just so rewarding to me. “
